Artist’s Statement: For me the starting point of a work is often intuitive. This is followed by a consideration of materials and methods with further consideration on the formal elements of composition. Whether the image evolves to be representational or abstract is not an issue. The issue is: will the quality of the print reflect the quality of the spirit? I strongly believe that some kind of dialogue takes place between the artist and the work before it can succeed. Understanding one’s own aesthetics is important. Much of my work is about people: the human condition. In some cases, it is a reconstruction of the past. My work is never totally abstract. I enjoy using recognisable imagery as a spark to draw people into the work.
